Let’s start this round-up with a heartfelt congratulation to Noda-sensei and his family as his wife was giving birth! The exact date is unclear as of now, but Young Jump let him take a break so that no new chapter of Golden Kamuy was out in Young Jump 12/2020. Congratulations, may the mother and the child(ren) be healthy and well!
The wording of the announcement on Golden Kamuy manga official account, however, was such that it could also be interpreted as it’s the sensei was the one giving birth. No wonder some of the replies were either confused or joking! I also couldn’t help thinking that writing about Inkarmat’s pregnancy—which has been featured in the last several chapters—is something that is deeply personal to Noda-sensei.
Next is the news for your wallet: UNIQLO will start selling Golden Kamuy T-shirts in April 2020 as part of Young Jump 40th Anniversary collaboration! There are three designs to be sold, and each shirt will be priced 990 yen. Tokyo Ghoul and Kingdom will join Golden Kamuy in the T-shirt line.
Sapporo Snow Festival has been held in early February, and the following tweet features a picture of the Golden Kamuy snow sculpture that was exhibited in the festival.
Not only back home in Hokkaido, Golden Kamuy also helps promoting Ainu culture in other parts of Japan. In Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is promoting awareness on Ainu culture by holding various activities and Golden Kamuy exhibition at Tokyo Skytree Town, Tokyo Solamachi, Space 634 on 7 March 2020 (11:00-19:00) and 8 March 2020 (10:00-19:00).
People can try hands-on activities, watch Ainu dance and song performances, see Golden Kamuy panels and drawing exhibitions, learn about various aspects of Ainu culture, history, and traditions. Join the event if you are in Tokyo on those dates!
Meanwhile in Nibutani, Hokkaido, an introductory event to Ainu culture has just been concluded. The event ran from 8 to 24 February, and it included various activities, from learning how to make ohau and other Ainu dishes, making kaleidoscope with Ainu patterns, Sisirimuka Ainu cultural festival, and mystery game “Golden Kamuy: Let’s find the sleeping treasure in Biratori!”. Surely a fun way to learn about the Ainu culture!
The last piece of news for now is a sweet one. Golden Kamuy fans sent food support as Valentine’s Day gift to geno studio, cheering them up as they continue working for season 3 of the anime! The director and the staff were really thankful towards the fans!
However, what we’d like to close this round-up with is this tweet: The possible inspiration for Usami’s look. What do you think, readers?
