Golden Kamuy is read by men and women equally, data shows

Hybrid bookstore honto has ranked the manga and light novels that are being adapted into anime scheduled for broadcast starting around October 2020. The titles were ranked according to the total number of purchased books from bookstores like honto’s own, Maruzen, Junkudo, Bunkyodo, and others, from 1 April 2020 to 6 September 2020. They collected data on the readership as well.

Haikyuu!! (43 volumes) tops the list, followed by Golden Kamuy (22 volumes), Jujutsu Kaisen (11 volumes), and Moriarty the Patriot (12 volumes) (the full list of the top 10 is at the end of this post).

Learning about the Ainu through books recommended by Golden Kamuy’s supervisor

In preparation for the making of Golden Kamuy, Noda Satoru and his editor-in-charge Ookuma Hakkou consulted various people and organizations. Among the people they consulted, Satou Yukio, then secretary-general of the Ainu Association of Hokkaido, and Ootani Youichi, an Ainu researcher from Hokkaido Museum, referred them to Chiba University’s Nakagawa Hiroshi. They both thought Nakagawa would be the most suitable supervisor for the upcoming work. Noda and Ookuma thus visited Nakagawa, handing him the draft for chapters 1 & 2. It would not be the first time Nakagawa doing checking for novels and other books, but what he saw in Noda’s draft astonished him so that instead of being asked, he asked to be involved in the making of the series.

Golden Kamuy joins Shueisha’s Natsucomi 2020!

Shueisha is holding its summer festival, Natsucomi 2020, from 1 July to 31 August this year, with a photo contest offering book coupons worth 1,000 yen each. If you buy Shueisha comic books (tankoubon), you’ll get a random Instagram-like frame card of Shueisha manga characters, including Asirpa.

primaniacs to release Golden Kamuy Fragrance

primaniacs, the company known for producing perfume products for anime characters, is joining other companies that are releasing Golden Kamuy goods. They’re preparing Golden Kamuy Fragrance line, currently offering five kinds for five main characters of the series. Each will be sold in 30-ml bottles, priced at 5,417 yen (excluding tax).

Golden Kamuy wins jury prize for best scenario in Japan Expo Awards 2018

Golden Kamuy grabbed another award in France, after previously the French translation won the Grand Prix in Le Konishi Prize. This time, the manga won a Daruma (award) from Japan Expo Awards 2018 for best scenario. The announcement was made on 22 February 2018. Congratulations!

In France, Golden Kamuy is published by Ki-oon.

Japan Expo 2018 will be held in Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center on 5—8 July 2018.
