[TRANSLATION] Golden Kamuy’s Year-End Party with Kobayashi Chikahiro (part I)

Source: Animate Times. Corrections, suggestions are welcome. The first parts (before the question and answer session begins) have been slightly re-paraphrased. We’ll post the translation in parts, since it will take even longer to wait until the translation is fully finished.

On 16 December 2018, an event was held in Animate AKIBA Girls’ Station in Akihabara, Tokyo to celebrate the release of the BDs/DVDs of Golden Kamuy second season. Since it was near the end of the year, the theme was “Golden Kamuy’s Year-End Party” with Kobayashi Chikahiro (Sugimoto Saichi). At that time, the second season hadn’t finished broadcasting. The event was filled with female fans who won the lottery drawing for the tickets to the event. The event started in a rather nervous tension, but as it went on, it became filled with laughter after laughter, totally entertaining the attendees.

[TRANSLATION] Takahashi Rumiko x Noda Satoru interview

Image

Noda Satoru‘s Golden Kamuy volume 19 has been recently released, and so has the first volume of legendary Takahashi Rumiko‘s latest project, MAO. To celebrate the two books, a special interview with the two mangaka was published in two parts. One part was published in Weekly Shounen Sunday (home to MAO), while another was published in Weekly Young Jump (home to Golden Kamuy).

Shounen Sunday Edition Blog (@Wsstalkback on Twitter) has translated the two parts of the interview. Thank you so much! Please enjoy the interesting interview, in which the two mangaka talk about their work, their inspirations, their career, and more! (My favourite parts: Noda-sensei saying he gets “too embarrassed to draw naked girls acting all cute” and that he’s already got the final scene for Golden Kamuy in mind!)

[Part One] [Part Two]

Season 3 confirmed!

During the Golden Kamuy Special Event on 7 July 2019, it was announced that season 3 is on the works! And with that, Golden Kamuy officially left the two-season anime club, where so many anime titles that have never got past the second season gather… The first visual was also released, showing Sugimoto in a thick snowstorm, with the words Then, to Karafuto… shown on it.

Can’t wait to listen to their voice acting again!

A trailer for the upcoming OVA Monster has also been released. The OVA will come with the special edition of Golden Kamuy manga volume 19, slated for 19 September 2019 release. In an official interview – and as you can see in the trailer yourself – director Nanba Hitoshi said that this time they don’t make the bear with 3D CG anymore. They’re all hand-drawn now. Bye bye then, iconic (ahem) 3D CG bear!

Spider-Man: Far from Home x Golden Kamuy collaboration announced!

The official Japanese Twitter account for the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Far from Home on 17 June 2019 morning announced the collaboration with the anime Golden Kamuy. Three posters show Golden Kamuy characters posing like Spider-Man in the anime’s Hokkaido setting such as Abashiri Prison and Otaru. A trailer was also released in which Sugimoto asked Asirpa who Spider-Man is (who he said has a head like Shiraishi’s), and Asirpa, joined by Tsurumi, explained to him eagerly. Tsurumi also claimed that he and Nick Fury had many similarities!

First of all, congratulations, Mexico! Panini, which has previously licensed Golden Kamuy in Brazil, is now taking Golden Kamuy to Mexico. The first volume, rated 17+, will be out in June 2019, priced at 109 pesos.

Another good news for summer is that this year Sapporo Beer ties up again with Golden Kamuy. This time, another can design is introduced: Shiraishi design!

“What would the occupation of Golden Kamuy characters be if they live in the present time?”

AU (alternate universe) fanworks are everywhere. Fans have been imagining their favourite characters in various non-canonical situations. But what if the author himself was asked to re-imagine the characters he wrote?

In the booklet that comes with Golden Kamuy manga volume 17 special edition, Noda Satoru was asked,

“What would the occupation of Golden Kamuy characters be if they live in the present time?”

Here are his answers:

  • Sugimoto – an athlete representing Japan in a minor sport.
  • Asirpa – a student in Otaru.
  • Ogata – a small town dentist.
  • Koito – a salesperson in Isetan men’s apparel.
  • Kiroranke – a building construction management engineer.
  • Tsurumi – a Public Security (Intelligence Agency) officer.
  • Tanigaki – a squid fisherman in Hakodate.
  • Shiraishi – a prisoner.

Seems like at least one person stays true to his original character even in this incarnation!

Do Noda-sensei’s answers fit your own imagination? If not, what do you think occupations that would fit them better in the present time?
